Hello everyone!

This week we are going back to where all photographers must begin; the basics! It is the little things we learn that make us who we are today, so for all of us ranging from novice to expert I set a challenge that each and every one of you take at least one photo for any of these categories.

Framing: A photographic frame is an object that that acts as a border or frame for your subject. The frame directs the viewer’s attention to a particular subject or point of interest within the photograph.

Leading Lines: Leading lines are used to draw the viewer’s eye through a photograph. They are used to draw your eye to a focal point in the shot that you would like to highlight.

Rule of Thirds: The rule of thirds is applied by aligning a subject with the guide lines and their intersection points, allowing linear features in the image to flow from section to section.  Imagine this as a grid of 9 divided boxes, wherever lines overlap would be considered a ‘hot spot.’

Depth of Field: Is the distance between the nearest and farthest objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image.

Symmetry: When you put the main point of interest slap bang in the middle of your shot and where there’s real symmetry in the image.

If you wish to participate in this please submit them to the Basics Folder and we will feature multiple photos every day.

It seems tedious enough, but not only are you helping yourself, you are also helping out other photographers. Lead by example! :aww:
Hello everyone,

I cannot express how deeply sorry I am for the delay and inactivity of this group. I had gone away for a few reasons and have now returned. I promise now that things will change for the better, since then I have picked up a few ideas that will keep this group rolling in the right direction.

I am, however, looking for people interested in moderator positions so please reply to this or a note on why you would like the position and I will let you know by the end of the day.

Again I apologize for this major and upsetting setback, things should be going smoothly in a few days.

Thank you.

Assistance

Our group is growing and because of that we have multiple photo's coming in at a time by many people so it would be most useful if we had volunteers to join us in moderators. If you would like to become a moderator please either comment on this blog or note me, the founder. Those selected will be given details via note and will be ranked.

Thank you!

Photography Theme

The theme is over and photo's are being viewed, please expect to see the winner by the end of this week.

Critique!

Soon we will open a folder for photo's that you wish to be critiqued and featured. It will be limited to 1-2 photo's and we will have someone critque it for you. Those who wish to be a critic please notify us by commenting or noting the founder and you will be given a task. Those who critique will also be featured even if a photo of their own is not critiqued.

Rules!

Hello everyone! It has come to my attention, with the thanks of our moderators, that many new or old members are not informed of our rules. We DO have rules and regulations which are very relaxed because we trust that our members will follow them. I will state them here so no one is confused.

:bulletblue: Although we do not have a limit for photo submissions, we kindly request you not to submit an excessive amount at a time. Please try not to submit more than four when you first join. Everyone enjoys your photos but we can't see them all at once! You may submit more over time even two is fine a day but please limit yourself.

:bulletblue: We insist that you submit what you consider to be your best and favourite photographs.

:bulletblue: A few of you have realized that we will not accept your work if it's submitted to the wrong category. Once it is declined you may submit it to the proper category. If you notice that it was accepted but misplaced please do not hesitate to ask us to move it for you, it will be no problem!

Other: Please submit all photographs to the folder where your picture applies. We also have the General Folder for photos that you don't want in a category.

We ask everyone to be responsible and know what you should or shouldn't do. Don't try to take advantage of our lenient rules, please! :aww:

Poll: You take photos mostly-

The winner of our Seven Deadly Sins theme is riddletyme!

Her submission of Hello, My Name Is... - Pride is a great example of how pride influences people. "I can't do sexy. I can only do ridiculous." Nothing ridiculous about her amazing gallery, go and check it out! ;)

Featured Photographer: laurenarchambeault

For now on we are featuring a member in every blog so everyone will get to know eachother and help the artist promote their work.

1. What got you interested in photography?

I have been interested in art since the time I could scribble with a crayon, so really I was just experimenting in different mediums and found that I really love photography.

2. When did you start taking pictures?

About three years ago, sometime in 7th grade I got my first digital camera: a Nikon Coolpix L10 and took it with me everywhere!

3. Is there any advice you would give to someone who is brand new to the field of photography? If so, what?

I'm pretty new myself, so I'm not sure I can give any deep seasoned advice, but I would definitely say two things: Take your camera everywhere you can, you never know when an opportunity will come up and you will get tons of experience! Also, if your camera has a continuous shooting function, try that every once in a while. I've found it can be used to catch some really amazing and genuine images.

4. Is there anything in particular you like taking photos of? If so, what?

Well, I actually really like taking portraits, just because humans are so multidimensional and that really comes through in so many ways in portraits. However, I don't have many willing models so I'm stuck with a lot of self portraits which I admit are great for testing out lighting and poses.

5. Is there anything or anyone that inspires you?

For sure, other artists on Deviantart and other places. On my tumblr I get to see lots of creative shots, which inspire me to think outside of the box or remind me of something I want to try myself. My dad is also a source of inspiration. He passed away five years ago and just thinking of making him proud inspires me to work harder.

6. Which photo, currently, in your gallery do you like the most? Any reason why?

Even though it was taken with my old Nikon point-and-shoot (Coolpix s210), I really like Meant to Be. I just think the concept is very cute and it was my first try shooting with paper in the background to create a seamless background. It has a special place in my heart.

General

• Can you give us a brief summary of who you are?

Hi! I'm Lauren Archambeault, and I'm 16 years old. Young and amateur at photography, I experiment a lot and love reading up on techniques to try in the future. I really enjoy photography and I get giddy at thought of doing it for a career, so I'm seriously considering pursuing that. But for right now, I just spend my time studying (I'm a total nerd!) and hanging out with family and friends, and of course taking pictures!

• Any comments you would like to add?

I think you pretty much covered it! I'll plug my portfolio laurenarchambeault.daportfolio… but it's really just the same pieces that are in my gallery. Hope you enjoyed learning a little more about one of your fellow photographers!

• What type of camera do you use?

I just got a Canon Rebel XS for my birthday in early April, so that's what I'm using! It's my first DSLR and I am super excited.

If you would like to be featured then message the founder or comment on a blog entry and we'll note you the questions and details.
